I have often been asked why I am attracted to Africa so I thought that I would share with you just some of the reasons why Africa has stolen a piece of my heart.
(1) The amazing natural beauty
There is nothing quite like waking up to Africa’s stunning natural beauty – something as a beauty expert I never cease to appreciate.
I can’t begin to choose one favourite spot but anyone who has been fortunate enough to visit the Obudu Plateau in southern Nigeria will know what I mean when I say that those dense and tall forests create an atmosphere like no other.
Of course the clean air that you breathe at such a high altitude is a great beauty benefit too.
(2) The warmth of the people
For a long time Malawi has claimed to be “The Warm Heart of Africa” but truly, warmth extends across the continent. Africans have a generosity of spirit and happiness in life which I wish I could bottle and share with some other places in the world.
(3) The truly special women in business
I feel stimulated by the number of women who have been in business for a long time but are still open and willing to learn. It is sometimes humbling to share my expertise with such amazing ladies.
(4) The ability to welcome and embrace change
I am always amazed at the way Africa embraces change. I see multinational brands entering the market – it is always great to see the need for local partnerships and talent evolving in the space.
I am saddened that there are so many misconceptions about Africa – in particular West Africa – where there is a massive growth in the makeup industry.
(5) Africa keeps me on my toes
I am fortunate to have two places in the world I call home – UK and Africa. Both places understand the explosion of the beauty industry and embrace education and training. However West Africa creates it own rules which means that I have to adjust my thinking when over there.
So, even though I am blessed to have experienced so much in life, it is nice to feel that there is so much yet to come.
Thank you Africa
